Abstract
The writing skill is as important as the other three skills. That is because we need to write during all our life. As students, we need to write at the different stages of learning. Writing is also important when applying for employment in any career. Skillfulness in writing is a basic necessity in academic environment, and even the nonacademic students who do not need to write reports and term papers will occasionally need to write letters, messages, memos, invitations, and the like. So we have to pay attention to the writing skill. This research investigates writing skill in the English language teaching in some Libyan schools, particularly at the University of Zawia. It aims to clarify difficulties facing students and to help the learners discover their errors when writing. Furthermore, it is intended to help the teachers to fulfill their duty efficiently. According to the researcher experience of teaching English as a foreign language in a secondary school, then at the university, specially when she has taught five groups of second year university students (40 – 35 students per group); she discovered that the writing skill is neglected by the majority of the students. These students have a problem in writing .i.e. when giving a writing task, they cannot write more than a few words or a sentence. Producing longer pieces of writing without the help of a tutor is impossible.
